What is Online Safety?

Online safety is the safe use of information systems and electronic communications, including the internet, mobile phones and games consoles. It is important that children and young people understand the benefits, risks and responsibilities of using information technology. Gilbert Colvin Primary School outlines the school's approach to online safety in the Online Safety Policy. We ask that all members of the school community and visitors read the policy and sign the relevant Acceptable Use Policy.

Apps and Website Guidance

We are always alert to the sites and apps children are using. One of the biggest concerns at Gilbert Colvin and in many primary schools is children using apps which have age restrictions.

One example of this is WhatsApp which should not be used by under 16's.   Most of the online problems we deal with are around children being unkind online in group chats. Although this takes place outside school we educate children about the impact of unkind online behaviour and we always address issues when they arise.
