Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to Gilbert Colvin Primary School.
I am delighted to be the Headteacher of this wonderful school and to be part of its happy and friendly community.
We have amazing children and staff that keep the school a vibrant and exciting place to be. It is a school that welcomes everyone and celebrates our individuality and diversity.
We greatly value the partnership between families and school and we often take opportunities to be able to work and celebrate together for the benefit of our children. The school has a long history and it is clear that one of its strengths is building on this and continuing to make changes that improve the opportunities that we provide for the children.
I am proud to be a part of this on-going journey towards the school’s overall mission:
At Gilbert Colvin Primary School we believe that we can achieve an ever- increasing potential by meeting challenges head on, working together, valuing our diversity and giving generously of ourselves. As a result we will become lifelong learners fully prepared for an exciting future. |
We strive for excellence in all we do so that each of our children are able to achieve of their best in all aspects of their education so that they become successful in their futures.
I hope that this website provides you with the information which you are seeking but if you cannot find something, please contact the school and we will be happy to help you.
Our aim to make the school an exciting place of learning enables us to make much of the opportunity we have to take the children on visits to both the city and the local countryside. We are also very keen to have a variety of visitors to the school to enhance the children’s experience.
The school is very lucky to have extensive grounds, a mini orchard, climbing apparatus and a zip wire! With the School Council, we are working hard to develop the playground even more.
History
The school was built in 1952 in the shape of an ‘E’ to celebrate the accession of Elizabeth II to the throne of the United Kingdom. It was named after Alderman Gilbert Colvin, Chairman of Ilford’s Education Committee and once Mayor of Ilford. Alderman Colvin was a great supporter of education in the Borough and was able to attend the Opening of the school in 1953.
The Future
Our Mission Statement sets out our vision for the school:
"At Gilbert Colvin Primary School we believe that we can achieve an ever- increasing potential by meeting challenges head on, working together, valuing our diversity and giving generously of ourselves.
As a result we will become lifelong learners fully prepared for an exciting future"
Our motto, Perseverance, Courage, Integrity, equips us with the values we need on our journey towards our vision.
